{DIY} Picture Ledge

img_5845In case you didn’t already know, I am a crazy dog lady. If you open the camera app on my phone and scroll through my pictures, 98% of them are of my dogs. I follow them around like paparazzi every day because they are just so darn cute. All my fellow dog people can relate. Don’t lie, you know you get excited when someone says, “Do you have a picture of your dog?” Oh do I? Ya wanna see them playing? Eating? Sniffing around? Wrestling each other? Being good? Being bad? Wearing a shirt? Wearing my hat? Riding in the car? Sleeping? I got you covered! I cannot even stand how cute they are. I just squeeze their faces all the time. And yes, in case you are wondering, pitbulls love to be squeezed. Continue reading

Master Bedroom Reveal

img_5523

When we moved into our little fixer upper, we got pulled in a million different directions working on a million different projects. Our master bedroom really took a backseat. I think it is because you can shut the door and pretend it isn’t there. We focused so much on our living space with painting and furnishing and just kept our bedroom on the “to-do” list behind a shut door.  Continue reading

Keepsake Christmas Ornament

img_4256My husband is a die hard “Real Tree Person.” Even the mention of a fake tree in our house is sure to muster up eye rolls and protesting. The first year we were married, I was so excited to pick out a tree. We headed to a tree farm, tied that baby up and threw it in the back of the Jeep with the top down…this is the South after all. We drove it home and our dog peed on it immediately. I mean, it IS a tree I guess. We strung it up with lights and hung up our four ornaments, leaving quite a few empty branches. We loved it anyway. This will be the fourth Christmas Tyler and I have spent together, and our tree this year is the prettiest to date. With that being said, our top lights just stopped working and Luna is trying to eat the fake berries off of it. I guess you can’t win them all, but no one has peed on it and we have added a few ornaments to our collection. I would call that success! Continue reading

{Before + After} Exterior

img_3914Now that we hired a painter and picked out colors…it was time to let the magic happen! Painting began while I was working, so you can imagine my excitement driving home that day. I was literally holding my breath driving through the neighborhood! What the heck was I about to come home to? Was it going to be amazing? Was the white too bright? Too yellow? Did it look okay with our brown roof? Was I going to cry tears of joy or tears of regret? Was it a good idea or bad idea to paint that brick? I know, I know. Paint is paint and paint can be changed…for a pretty penny! We had to get this right the first time! Continue reading

How to Choose Exterior Paint

img_3799“If you give a mouse a cookie, he will ask for a glass of milk.” Nothing rings more true in the case of us deciding to paint the exterior of our home. It’s not like we necessarily LOVED the orange-brown creamsicle color of our home, but it was not the top priority of things to change. Well, we got this little big puppy named Luna who decided to eat the siding off of our home. No, she didn’t just chew it. She actually ate it. So it goes like this…if your dog eats your siding, you need to replace that siding. And if you are going to replace the siding, you will need to paint that siding. And if you decide to paint the new siding, you might as well paint the old siding too. And if you paint all the siding, you should probably just paint the brick while you’re at it. And when you paint that brick, you should pick a whole new color for everything, including the shutters and the doors. And that, my friends, is how we went from our dog eating our siding to getting a whole new exterior of our home. See what I mean about the mouse and the cookie? Or in our case, a Luna and a piece of siding. Out of control. Continue reading

Homeowneversary Recap

img_3604It has been a whole entire year since we started this journey of buying a house and slowly turning it into our home. It seems like just yesterday that Tyler and I were digging through boxes in our garage the night we moved in. He was looking for a cable to hook up our TV…and I was looking for my underwear so I could actually shower. Priorities, right? Thankfully, we had some wonderful family members, a super large vehicle, and a lot of coffee to get all of our stuff moved in one day. My awesome mother and my sweet mother-in-law scrubbed the kitchen and floors, my dad and Tyler took multiple trips to get all our furniture, Draco ran around his new backyard to patrol the area and I was….I don’t know, maybe bossing everyone around? HA. It was somewhat of a blur. We went to bed that night, on our mattress on the guest bedroom floor, super excited and so very tired. We had made it. We bought our first house! Continue reading
