How to Choose Exterior Paint

How to Choose Exterior Paint

“If you give a mouse a cookie, he will ask for a glass of milk.” Nothing rings more true in the case of us deciding to paint the exterior of our home. It’s not like we necessarily LOVED the orange-brown creamsicle color of our home, but it was not the top priority of things to change. Well, we got this little big puppy named Luna who decided to eat the siding off of our home. No, she didn’t just chew it. She actually ate it. So it goes like this…if your dog eats your siding, you need to replace that siding. And if you are going to replace the siding, you will need to paint that siding. And if you decide to paint the new siding, you might as well paint the old siding too. And if you paint all the siding, you should probably just paint the brick while you’re at it. And when you paint that brick, you should pick a whole new color for everything, including the shutters and the doors. And that, my friends, is how we went from our dog eating our siding to getting a whole new exterior of our home. See what I mean about the mouse and the cookie? Or in our case, a Luna and a piece of siding. Out of control. Continue reading “How to Choose Exterior Paint”

Homeowneversary Recap

Homeowneversary Recap

It has been a whole entire year since we started this journey of buying a house and slowly turning it into our home. It seems like just yesterday that Tyler and I were digging through boxes in our garage the night we moved in. He was looking for a cable to hook up our TV…and I was looking for my underwear so I could actually shower. Priorities, right? Thankfully, we had some wonderful family members, a super large vehicle, and a lot of coffee to get all of our stuff moved in one day. My awesome mother and my sweet mother-in-law scrubbed the kitchen and floors, my dad and Tyler took multiple trips to get all our furniture, Draco ran around his new backyard to patrol the area and I was….I don’t know, maybe bossing everyone around? HA. It was somewhat of a blur. We went to bed that night, on our mattress on the guest bedroom floor, super excited and so very tired. We had made it. We bought our first house! {DIY} Embroidery Hoop Art

{DIY} Embroidery Hoop Art

I’ve already shared how I so quickly fell in love with my sunroom! If you missed it, start here! The floor to ceiling windows along three walls are bright and beautiful and the perfect lookout tower for my pups to spy on the neighbors and bark at the squirrels. With that kind of view, I knew that fourth wall needed something special! Shelves are pretty, but required me to buy MORE stuff to fill them. A large piece of art would have filled the space, but is slightly boring. I was perusing Instagram when I saw these babies. Embroidery hoops! So sweet and so pretty and the perfect touch to finish off this room. This project was originally featured by Erin over at Cotton Stem right here! Seriously, do yourself a favor and check out her blog. It is amazing and so jam packed with beautiful interior inspiration! So…thank you Erin for this idea! Continue reading “{DIY} Embroidery Hoop Art”

Sunroom Reveal

Sunroom Reveal

I have to say, one of my talents in life is knowing when “it’s the one.” I would never label myself as being incredibly opinionated, but when I know, I know. Ya know? For example, I had only known Tyler for about 3 months when we were rushing around getting ready for a concert. We stopped for fast food so we could make it on time and he made fun of my kids meal. “I could eat that in one bite.” Sure enough, he bought a McDonald’s cheeseburger and folded it over twice and shoved the whole thing in his mouth. As he was chewing, he pulled out the pickle and mouthed to me “I don’t like pickles.” Yep, he was the one. Continue reading “Sunroom Reveal”

Lessons in Home Ownership: Episode One

Lessons in Home Ownership: Episode One

There is so much excitement behind buying your first home. I could not wait for a place of our own. I could not wait to stop throwing rent money away. I could not wait to feel at home. But you always have those people that bring down your excitement with “Oh you’re buying a home? You know the to-do list is never ending.” Or “Oh congrats! It is awesome, but you know it is a lot of up keep. I hope you and your husband are handy.” Continue reading “Lessons in Home Ownership: Episode One”

Painting 101

Painting 101

DIY is in my blood.

When I was little, if I broke something I never got upset because I knew my dad could fix it. I once witnessed him rig a dust pan to the front of our washing machine to catch the leak and trickle it into a bucket. Another time, I ran over my favorite sterling silver ring in the gym parking lot and he took a solder gun and warmed it enough to bend it back to shape. When I leaving for PT school, I told him I wanted a new bed and he went out in the garage and built me one that would make Pottery Barn green with envy. This man has talent. Shiplap Love

Shiplap Love

For the love of lime green. Someone previously living in this house apparently LOVED it so much they painted multiple rooms with it. I did not appreciate feeling the need to wear sunglasses in my house, so this was the first thing to go. Aside from painting, I decided my guest room needed a fun touch. Something more than paint, but less than ripping down walls.

Shiplap. Anyone with a little Joanna Gains in ya can appreciate my love of it! But sadly this is not Waco and I can assure you I have no shiplap hiding behind my 90’s walls. I looked up real shiplap and very quickly decided my husband would not appreciate eating ramen noodles to make room for it in the budget. A few pinterest searches later, and I had my decision. Faux shiplap. It was happening. And it had to happen now. Continue reading “Shiplap Love”

Here we go, y’all

Here we go, y’all

Remember back in the day when you had to write school papers? Unfortunately, I had a lot of practice with those considering the amount of school I tortured myself with. But you sit down, cup of coffee in hand, staring at the computer screen. My parents own a little coffee shop, so I would sit in the cafe, sipping my coffee, just staring at the blinking cursor wondering what to say and how to say it. I am having flash backs now as I sit here, staring at this computer screen…only no coffee in hand this time. Maybe that’s my problem right there…no coffee. Continue reading “Here we go, y’all”
