There is so much excitement behind buying your first home. I could not wait for a place of our own. I could not wait to stop throwing rent money away. I could not wait to feel at home. But you always have those people that bring down your excitement with “Oh you’re buying a home? You know the to-do list is never ending.” Or “Oh congrats! It is awesome, but you know it is a lot of up keep. I hope you and your husband are handy.” Continue reading “Lessons in Home Ownership: Episode One”
Do y’all have anything in your home that you are super proud of? These shelves are mine! I never really built anything from scratch (Ikea furniture doesn’t count apparently), until I decided to tackle these babies. We have this huge wall above our soaking tub that was going to need some love and I wanted something for a little extra storage. I’ll be honest, these are more about displaying fun knick-knacks and less about storage at this point, but I seriously love them! I did a lot of research and read about 10 tutorials before drawing up my own version and getting to work! Today, I’m sharing how I built these beauties! Continue reading “DIY Floating Shelves”
Back with another episode of “How I Salvaged my Ugly Bathroom!” Let’s talk about how I gave my vanity cabinets a total makeover, shall we? Do you remember where my cabinets started? They are wooden, but painted a terrible brown. Not even a pretty brown, but just plain ugly brown. This is where we started… Continue reading “Cabinet Painting”
Moving is expensive. Between closing costs and bubble wrap you can put a dent in your wallet fairly quickly. So how do you spruce an older home up without completely breaking the bank? Being first time home owners, we had to be savvy with what we were willing to change upon arrival! Here are 6 quick ways to spruce up your new-to-you home…while having a few extra bucks for that pizza since you can’t find your kitchen boxes! Continue reading “6 Ways to Spruce Up an Older Home”
DIY is in my blood.
When I was little, if I broke something I never got upset because I knew my dad could fix it. I once witnessed him rig a dust pan to the front of our washing machine to catch the leak and trickle it into a bucket. Another time, I ran over my favorite sterling silver ring in the gym parking lot and he took a solder gun and warmed it enough to bend it back to shape. When I leaving for PT school, I told him I wanted a new bed and he went out in the garage and built me one that would make Pottery Barn green with envy. This man has talent. For the love of lime green. Someone previously living in this house apparently LOVED it so much they painted multiple rooms with it. I did not appreciate feeling the need to wear sunglasses in my house, so this was the first thing to go. Aside from painting, I decided my guest room needed a fun touch. Something more than paint, but less than ripping down walls.
Shiplap. Anyone with a little Joanna Gains in ya can appreciate my love of it! But sadly this is not Waco and I can assure you I have no shiplap hiding behind my 90’s walls. I looked up real shiplap and very quickly decided my husband would not appreciate eating ramen noodles to make room for it in the budget. A few pinterest searches later, and I had my decision. Faux shiplap. It was happening. And it had to happen now. Continue reading “Shiplap Love”
When we moved into our new house, we had some pretty empty walls. Well, to be honest, we STILL have a lot of empty walls, but they are slowly being filled. Don’t you just love those farmhouse style, personalized signs? Scroll your insta-feed and you’ll see dozens of them with last names, wedding dates, cute sayings…you name it! The only thing I don’t love about them are the prices. Sooooo…being the DIY crazy that I am, I set out to make something myself. I had a big empty spot in my breakfast nook that needed some love. I made the most darlin’ sign to hang there and thought I would share how I did it…ya know, in case you decide you need one too! Continue reading “Latitude & Longitude Sign”
Remember back in the day when you had to write school papers? Unfortunately, I had a lot of practice with those considering the amount of school I tortured myself with. But you sit down, cup of coffee in hand, staring at the computer screen. My parents own a little coffee shop, so I would sit in the cafe, sipping my coffee, just staring at the blinking cursor wondering what to say and how to say it. I am having flash backs now as I sit here, staring at this computer screen…only no coffee in hand this time. Maybe that’s my problem right there…no coffee. Continue reading “Here we go, y’all”
